The Tea Dragon Tapestry by K. O'Neill

5.0

I had loved reading The Tea Dragon Society and The Tea Dragon Festival with its very atmospheric illustrations and adorable characters, but I think The Tea Dragon Tapestry surpasses them all with a more nuanced storytelling and exploring a different realm with its illustrations as well.

I loved the themes that this graphic novel explores - grief with Ginseng, feeling inadequate and not having enough confidence in one-self with Greta, feeling lost and desperately clinging onto a past that no longer represents you with Minette, and the nature of life becoming stagnant with a new character it introduces. I also loved seeing the two somewhat separate worlds of Tea Dragon Society and Tea Dragon Festival mix with each other, creating a fuller and more enriched experience. To see old characters grow up and become a different version of themselves, and to learn new things about them is always a beautiful thing. It enunciated the subtle beauty of the passage of time and the changes that come with it, good and bad.

As always, the Tea Dragon Festival dazzles with its amazing illustrations and colouring and it was definitely a winner with its story. Would highly recommend this book.
