On first glance: cute rabbit!

On a more in-depth glance, it seems like Potter is portraying Peter Rabbit as an outcast of society for failing to follow social norms as admonished by his mother at the beginning of the book. He steals from the farmer and is stripped of his 'humanity' - his clothes, his shoes, and his identity. He is hounded and forced to hide for his mischievousness and was punished towards the end by not receiving any food to eat with his family.

Man, I'm not sure if I'm looking too much into children's books or now that I'm a little more older and jaded, I can see some themes meant to keep children in line somehow resembling deeper themes.

But it's a great book and I love the art!
