Initially I had a hard time keeping up with the characters and the setting. I was flipping back and forth between pages and chapters. However, I persevered, and it was worth it. Not only was the effort (on my part) needed, but it made the read so much more enjoyable. I don't think this is a difficult book, but you will need to focus while you read. The characters are rich and you find yourself rooting for them in some of the worst circumstances.
