A tightly woven tale of estrangement & embroidery - I loved this book and my only caveat is that I would have liked more, especially re scenery descriptions and worldbuilding generally! I’m a sucker for super slow pacing I’m afraid, feel free to ignore me, TK.
It was indeed a heartwarming tale of found family, but more than that: it dealt in detail with the pain and enduring love that can be bound up in estrangement from birth family, in a context of shared trauma and violence against women.
The latter is perhaps the enduring theme of this book: what looms large is the all-encompassing, all-too-familiar threat of a violent man (a prince!). Yet, ultimately, it is the strange magic of women - on their own terms - that triumphs. Also shout out to Fenris, #notallmen?
This is a story of solidarity. And demon chickens. Deal with it.
