Heart2Heart: A Charity Anthology, Volume 3 by Annabeth Albert, May Archer, Leslie Copeland, Leslie Copeland

5.0

I love the concept of this anthology: the money goes to a great cause, it was fun to revisit the Heart2Heart universe again, and it’s really cool that readers’ suggestions made it into some of these stories.

The Closet - Eden Finley: 3.5 stars
Starts and ends the anthology. Drag queens aren’t a personal favorite of mine, but I thought the writing really sold it.

The Book - Aimee Nicole Walker: 2.5 stars
Cute, but felt a bit rushed. I thought the bit about “getting a spark when I look at you” was cliché and didn’t fit with how Evan views relationships at the beginning of the story.

The Date - Annabeth Albert: 4 stars
Super sweet, military romance. Damien’s disastrous sex stories were hilarious and Xaviar’s way of circumventing sex-accidents was HOT.

The Yarn Wrangler - Charlie Cochet: 1 star
I’ve read and enjoyed Charlie’s books in the past, but this was not for me. I found the characters over-the-top and not believable at all. The opening scene of
SpoilerBonner stealing money from Simon
put me in a very bad mood and is probably why I couldn’t get into the rest of the story. I felt like there was little to no relationship development shown, and the repentance at the end didn’t make sense at all.

Dork Lord - Damon Suede: 1 star
I’ve never read this author before, so I wasn’t expecting how wacky and unique his style is. Didn’t click with me.

The Top Shelf - Hailey Turner: 4.5 stars
Such a cute story! Didn’t feel rushed at all, and there are some very steamy scenes <3 Hailey is excellent at writing relatable characters, and even though this is a shorter novella I still felt very invested in getting this couple their HEA.

The Family Reunion - K.M. Neuhold: 4.5 stars
I’ve never found a K.M. book I didn’t like, and this is no exception. I’m a sucker for a fake boyfriend trope and thought the piercings were a super sexy addition. While I felt like I knew exactly who Roman was by the end of the story, I didn’t get the same depth with Law.

The Last Drop - Layla Reyne: 4 stars
I haven't read many nomad/drifter books, but I really enjoyed the themes about finding home in this one. I'm very impressed by the character depth Layla can write in such a short story--I felt like I was there right with Greg and Tony hoping it would work out.

The Dog Walker - Lily Morton: 3.5 stars
The beginning of this story isn’t really the beginning. We’re thrown immediately into a sex scene without any background information, or even knowing who the characters are. I found myself skimming ahead to figure out what was even going on, then re-reading the first few pages so I could actually appreciate the sex and feels. Once I got past the confusion at the start, I thought it was an interesting read.

The Treehouse - Lucy Lennox: 3 stars
This one was just okay to me. The “mystery man” aspect was intriguing, but otherwise nothing stood out to me.

The Restoration - Mary Calmes: 2.5 stars
I couldn’t get into this story from the beginning. I think my personal tastes just don’t mesh with this author.

The Vase - May Archer: 2.5 stars
This is another story that I wasn’t in love with. Nothing particularly bad about it, just not very exciting to me.

The Helping Hand - Nora Phoenix: 5 stars
Such a fun story! I’ve been a huge Nora fan for ages, and this is another awesome read. I love how Nora played around with physical appearance and sexual preferences. Mike and Melissa totally stole my heart too <3

The Dream Machine - Piper Scott writing as Emma Alcott: 3 stars
I didn’t understand the concept of this story and that made it hard for me to read. The mix of real and supernatural (along with characters I couldn’t relate to) left me feeling just okay about the story.

The Wedding Date - Susan Hawke: 2 stars
I love cats and am a self-proclaimed crazy cat lady, but not even sweet, baby kittens could save this story for me. It started off very calm and then took a turn into something ridiculous and unbelievable to me. I’ve had a hard time with this author before, so maybe her writing style just doesn’t click with me.

The Wrong Guy - Sloane Kennedy: 3 stars
Very angsty. I usually love cowboy/rancher stories, but this one was just okay.

**I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
