Jackie's Journey: Thrills of Three by Steph Ravish

4.0

Disclaimer: I've never read erotica before, so I have nothing to compare it to, and I'm not familiar with what's typical of the genre.

This is a story about a threesome with two men and a woman. I liked that it was based on consent and mutual respect. The men made sure that Jackie felt comfortable and safe at all times. They were focused on her pleasure, and she could ask for whatever she wanted, which she did. There were a few uncertain and awkward moments that felt very realistic and were resolved with open communication and kindness. As the night progressed, the three lovers got more and more comfortable with each other, trying different things and having lots of fun. I liked the playful dynamics and chemistry among them. They were clearly enjoying themselves and each other.

I also appreciated that there was a moment when Jackie thought that she wanted something, but as they started doing it, it turned out to be too much. She used a safe word, and they immediately stopped. I think this book can not only be a hot story to read, but a good guide for those who'd like to try something new in bed or just learn to communicate openly about their sexual desires.

I think a few lines of dialogue could be made a bit smoother as I tripped over them — nothing big and it doesn't apply to all the dialogue in the book, but I felt that another round of editing could help some lines sound more natural. I also thought the book could use some more showing instead of telling in certain situations. For instance, I'd love to read the letter that Paul had written to Jackie and experience his perception of the night. It could both allow for some character development, as he's a mystery, and be exciting to read about just to relive some moments through him. I'd also love to see some of the talking between the sex scenes — we're told that the characters chat and joke around using more and more sexual innuendo. I think this kind of thing — a gradual increase of sexual tension revealed through playful exchanges — could work really well to tease the reader.

All in all, I liked the book. If you enjoy erotica, threesomes and consensual sex, you might like it too.
