The Patron by Vivian Wood

What a fun, great intro into the Broken Slipper trilogy! The Patron explores the new journey Kaia goes on as she navigates the world of adulthood including the pressures of getting into an elite ballet school (her lifelong goal), working secretly as an exotic dancer to pay back her abusive father, and how much she's willing to put on the line for a love interest.

While I enjoyed seeing Kaia explore these elements of her life with Calum, the attractive billionaire/ex-ballet dancer turned stage manager, it's very clear that Kaia still has a lot of learning and growing to do. She absolutely shows her age in her decision-making skills - especially when it comes to her family - and I'm eager to see her character grow her independence and inner strength.

The story itself kept me hooked the entire time. So much so, I ended up binge reading it in one sitting because I needed to see how things progressed. Wood's writing is engaging and thrilling, and I would be keen to read anything further this author releases.
