Hava is the perfect unlikeable yet incredibly loveable protagonist. I love that Cashore challenged herself with a first-person perspective. At first I really didn’t like it, and then it grew on me throughout Hava’s journey. It fit Hava’s story and voice. I don’t think it would’ve worked as well in third person like her other novels. Anyway, I am so glad I picked up Fire earlier this year because it brought me to Hava, and I am happy I lived in her story for some time. I absolutely will re-read, and I absolutely will cry over Hava, Hope, and all of their fox babies.
