Infected by Scott Sigler
3.0

This book was enjoyable, but it seemed to have trouble deciding what form it wanted to take.

On one hand, it was a medical/science thriller about a team of scientists trying to analyze and isolate a strange infection.

On another, it was a military adventure about a team of special agents scrambling to contain the same infection, and dealing with the violent afflicted.

On still another, it was a body horror story about an infected man and the creeping progress of his disease.

While Sigler covered all three story lines adequately, dividing up the book in this fashion meant that the three very different types of atmospheres had no chance to fully develop. This had the unfortunate effect of minimizing my engagement with the story. I remained a spectator without becoming fully invested.

It's worth a read, and I plan to read part 2. But I think with a bit more focus it could have been truly impressive.
