Pilgrim at Tinker Creek
by Annie Dillard
I wanted to love this book so much more unequivocally than I did. There were moments when I thought ‘that might be the most beautiful thing I’ve ever read’ but other moments when I found it tedious, overly florid or just annoying. Ultimately, I’ve decided that this book is a pretty good metaphor for being in nature. At times the beauty is so intense that it’s spiritual and transformative, but it’s also rocks in your shoes, ants all over your picnic, too humid for these clothes, a way longer hike that you imagined, poison oak, chiggers and biting flies.
I’m glad I read this book but also glad I’m done now. That said, I liked the muskrat bit and might read that part again...
