Within the first five pages I was hooked and was excited for what was to come. I loved the internal dialogue of our main character, especially as she interacts with her racist rehabilitation psychologist. But the book quickly loses steam and fails to keep that “bold, unsettling, and tender” pace that the marketing promises.
