Vera Wong's Guide to Snooping (on a Dead Man) by Jesse Q. Sutanto

challenging hopeful mysterious medium-paced

4.0

The magic of these books is Vera; her voice comes through loud and clear and I love her as a character dearly. Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy the mystery in this book as much as the first. The subject matter was really dark and I nearly skipped through one whole chapter entirely because of the disturbing details of a human trafficking experience. That and some cursing makes this firmly NOT cozy mystery.

While the first book wasn’t exactly breezy, it struck a better balance than this one. Still, I will always come back for this magnificent character as well as the found family and food in these books.
