Generation One by Pittacus Lore

I picked this at Random from my local library and although it took me quite a while to get into it I soon realised I wasn't the target reader.
The book centres on a group on teenagers from across the world who come together at a Californian academy to help them fight an alien enemy, hone their telekinesis and one other superhuman ability. These are wide ranging including but not limited to throwing explosive bolts, duplication, shape shifting and healing. This is useful if your mates are constantly injured in the video game violence through out the book.
With no parents around these teenagers don't have to answer to them, only the academy and it did feel this was taken from Star Trek as we also have in this world, teleportation, and translator devices.
I won't say this book isn't enjoyable only that the 15 year-old me would have appreciated it more.
Having said that the author leaves room for more in any continuing books in this universe and asks a relevant question towards the end, who are the real villains? Things may not be as they appear at first sight.
