Calypso by David Sedaris

I get that Sedaris is a humorist. I actually really liked this book and had a few laugh out loud moments… the deadpan “whore” toward the end of a chapter where Sedaris asks his partner how many lovers he’s had… comedic gold.

But jokes at the expense of people with Down Syndrome just aren’t funny. They don’t hit the same way any of other humor does… because they aren’t funny. Just like jokes at the expense of black people aren’t funny. And those at the expense of trans people aren’t funny. And those at the expense of people with brain injuries aren’t funny.
