Death of a Green-eyed Monster by M.C. Beaton
4.0
I've read all the books in the Hamish Macbeth series. I loved the humor and zaniness of the early books. These books have been the ultimate comfort read for me. The later books deteriorated into repetition, absurdity, and too many dead bodies. Everyone is not enthralled with the new books written solely by Beaton's appointed heir to her series, but I like that Hamish has calmed down and become less of a one-note character.
I enjoyed Death of a Green-Eyed Monster, although like any true Hamish fan I knew I liked the setting and that we got to catch up with many of Hamish's former constables. What I did not expect was how I was a little worried that this was the final book in the series, but other titles have been announced. I hope Hamish can find some happiness in the next book, and what I really hope is that
And what's with that cover showing a black cat with an engagement ring in its mouth? Clearly chosen by someone who has not read the book....

that he would not marry Dorothy.Spoiler
extremely sad the ending is. Dorothy really loved Hamish, Hamish really loved Dorothy, and she is murdered right before their wedding. Waaaay too sad for a Hamish Macbeth book.Spoiler
