The Halloween Moon by Joseph Fink

emotional funny hopeful inspiring medium-paced

3.75

3.75 or a soft 4 for me, I really loved the first 80 or so pages, but the middle dragged for a bit with some repetitive scenes of people talking or being chased, and there's a 20 page chapter where a character goes trick or treating 3 times. In the novel's context it makes perfect sense and drives home the point, but the book could have been 40-50 pages shorter in my view.

That said, the ending and final 40 or so pages were absolutely perfect, especially for the target audience, and has so much to say for adult readers too. The Halloween Moon is a surprisingly poignant, deep, and heartfelt coming of age story that I ended up loving way more than I thought I would. Beautiful stuff.
