The 12 Dares of Christa by Marissa Burt
2.0

I have...mixed feelings about this book. on one hand, it's a fairly uplifting juvenile book about a young 13 year old girl (Christa) learning to deal with her parents divorce while on a trip around Europe with her mother, who is an actor and pretty absent. She gets to spend time touring cities with a guide but also manages to slip off several times to complete dares that her father sends her, to keep with their old holiday tradition of a scavenger hunt.

I liked this book because it's an easy read that is a cute story of growth of friendship and learning to communicate with her rather absent mother. However, Christa's fear of new foods is never really addressed, and who lets a bunch of young kids run around unsupervised in unfamiliar, major cities? The book comes to a good, sweet ending, but dealing with Christa's whining through the first half of the book was almost enough to put it down.
