Don’t let the start turn you off - it’s near identical to the movie, but it sure does not stay that way. While starting with the start of the classic, it does show more depth into Aladdin in his past, and then takes a swift turn from the story we all know, as promised.
Honestly, I was a bit suprised a Disney book could get this dark, but never did it get dark to a point where I felt uncomfortable or needed to take a break. It was done to a degree of needed realism for what take this story takes on the story - one of danger and war.
A great start to the series!
