Something about this just wasn't for me. On paper, the synopsis, the themes, all looked good. Sometimes I'd get upset I wasn't enjoying it more, especially since the book had some fantastic poetic lines thrown in. But the baroque prose often made me cringe, and I found it difficult to take the characters seriously, or to see or root for the love between them.
