Where the Forest Meets the Stars by Glendy Vanderah

4.0

Jo, a grad student doing research in rural Illinois comes home one night to find a young girl hanging around her home. The girl tells her she's an alien named Ursa, who's doing her planet's version of graduate research - she's been sent to earth to experience 5 miracles and then she can go back. ⁣

Initially, Jo is annoyed - but as she talks more with Ursa, it becomes clear that wherever she's from, she's in need. Jo takes her in & takes care of her with the help of her neighbor, Gabe. As they learn more about Ursa they fall in love with her, and each other.⁣

I found parts of the love story in this book to be a bit of an eye-roller, and the middle to be slow & long, but Jo's individual life & Ursa's storyline was. so. good. that we've somehow found our way all the way to 4 stars. If you read & find yourself bored in the middle - know that the end is excellent.

There are trigger warnings that are also spoilers - if you are careful with what you read you may want to google for them before picking this one up.
