I enjoyed this even though it was a little different from Cather's other works. Having visited Quebec City for the first time this past summer, I liked reading more about the early history of French Canada (some of the characters are historical figures who are very visible in the region even today, like Laval University for example). The story took some time to develop, so I could see someone who is not very interested in the history struggling with this.
