Loved the scene with Pilar describing the fascists being overthrown in their town . After that, it was a little slow. I liked both Robert Jordan and Maria, but their romance just didn't resonate with me. Maria was a much more interesting character in the scenes not involving their romance. Pablo and Pilar are both messy and complex characters that I loved. I think their relationship was much more interesting than Robert and Maria's.
The ending sold me on this. It was beautiful and tragic. It was inevitable, and I knew it was coming, but it still made me tear up.
