The Bone Collector
by Jeffery Deaver
3.5 Stars (we really need half-star ratings, Goodreads)
What a great read. Too bad I saw the movie first. It took me a while to get Denzel out of my head; and fans of his know this is quite difficult...all that fine-ness and such... but, I digress. The movie was excellent, but as we all know certain liberties are taken in Hollywood. What you get on screen is not necessarily the way the book was written; as is the case here.
The story-line of the killer, and WHY he does what he does, at the very basics, is the same. Make Lincoln Rhyme pay. How he goes about this and why; is a whole other ball game. We do have an inkling as to who the killer may be, and then one is thrown in our face at some point; just to be snatched away in shock and awe.
The story-line of our main characters are quite different, but with the same end results. Great characters, with a life of their own.
The author did his homework, and for that, I am appreciative. He knew how to keep us intrigued with all of the cop lingo, and forensics. He made it easy to follow along without making me feel like I was reading 'Dick and Jane.'
If you love a good mystery, then this is a great beginning to what I hope is a great series.
