The Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kamali
5.0
Genre: Historical Fiction
[TW: domestic violence, kidnapping, murder, anti-indigenous people language]
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks to a good friend for pushing me to finally pick this one up and buddy read with her as it's been on my TBR since it was released.
This book contained everything I love in a fictional family drama - generational story telling, slow character driven writing, and beautiful underlying messages about resilience and grit. It's a slow burn and I loved getting to know each of the characters and their unique struggles.
My favorite part of the novel is the subtle messaging about the erasure of Native American culture and the thought process that Whites can save them or make things better for them. It really hit home and was done very well.
