American Primitive by Mary Oliver

4.0

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Mary Oliver's work. "An Old Whorehouse" and "The Kitten" were personal favorites from this collection. Most notably, Oliver has the ability to entrance her readers with vivid imagery of natural objects, then catch them off-guard by posing a question about life's purpose. Quick and much easier to digest than Dickinson or Whitman. Wish it included her infamous "The Summer Day" -- "Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?"
