Autobiography of Red by Anne Carson

Much to savor, reread, and slow down for. Hurts at times. This was definitely unique and likely would have been more enjoyable had I been more familiar with the myth, but it made me excited to read more from Anne Carson.

Good quotes out of context:

“When Geryon was little he loved to sleep but even more he loved to wake up.”

“… it was one of those moments that is the opposite of blindness.”

“Facts are bigger in the dark.”

“It was raining on his face. He forgot for a moment that he was a brokenheart then he remembered … Each morning a shock to return to the cut soul.”

“Geryon’s whole body formed one arch of a cry-upcast to that custom, the human custom of wrong love.”

“Total agitation possessed him.”

“…whose movements had the rounded languor of a dream.”
