An Emotion of Great Delight by Tahereh Mafi

I don't think I was expecting this to be quite so much about love, but ofc since the main character is a teenager, it makes sense.

The story paints a desolate picture of a teenage girl is struggling to stay afloat --between family tragedies and a lost "best friend." Throughout, we see the main character trying to swallow every sadness and manage by herself, but there are also pockets of sunshine (mainly just thinking about Noah here).

Maybe this isn't one of my immediate favorites, but it's an important perspective/time frame to read about. Seeing that it was about a Muslim teenager in 2002 is what made me pick it up in the first place.

As an audiobook, it was quick to listen through.
