Shade
by Jeri Smith-Ready
What liked about this book were the characters. I am a character driven reader. They can get me through any story frustrations I have. All the teenagers have an awesome familial support group, even though one is a single dad and one is being raised by her aunt and one is the typical big Catholic family. I love this. There are great friends. All the characters are very genuine and real. I couldn’t put the book down. I had to find out as much as I could about each of them.
The only character I wasn’t in love with was Logan. He was pretty selfish. But a selfish that you kind of expect from a musician. This obviously causes him to make poor decisions that leave him dead and may even taint his afterlife. As much as I like Aura and understood her love for Logan, I didn’t like how she felt about giving herself to Logan. Like she had to do it to keep him, even though she wanted to. I thought there was a little too much focus on this throughout the book. I liked the time they spent together after he died. It was sweet and tender, but I wonder if it was because his music was gone. I very much liked Zachary. He is a strong man and approaches things with equal parts passion and logic. I look forward to seeing more of him.
I wanted more of what the heck is going on. What is the Shift? What is the ghost/shade world? Why are shades bad? I want to dig into the mystery of Newgrange. I feel like more of this will be revealed in Shift, so I will read on.
Irishman v Scotsman; Ghost v Alive. How does a girl choose?
