This is a nice collection of true crime essays. These are not deep cuts--I had heard of all of the cases included here--but they're also solid takes. The most tedious parts of the book are the intro and the essay that try to uncover Why We Love True Crime. I did enjoy the highbrow crime story vs. lowbrow crime story take, though, and like the author I also prefer the lowbrow (not including here the absolute gorefest books or slapdash podcasts like Crime Junkies). It seems more honest, in a way.
