Before We Were Strangers by Renée Carlino

I liked the writing, and a few parts brought tears to my eyes, but I hated the book.

I hate worlds where there can only be “one true love” (unless the book is The Princess Bride). I think people should suck it up and learn to love the one they’re married to. I felt super sorry for Dan, who raised someone else’s kid, helped the heroine far more than the Hero, never found “true love”, and then to top the cake he has to die at hhe end to make room for his wife’s “true love”. I also really, really didn’t like that the heroine never tried to contact the Hero’s parents about her secret love child, or claim child support. She would have had help and she would never have had to marry poor Dan (her not true love) for his money and kid raising abilities.
