The second instalment of the Burn for Burn series starts off right where it left off in the first book. It was just as fun and exciting as the first one, and it is filled with revenge and all kinds of drama! I don’t think I can say this enough, but I love the characterizations of all the characters, even the ones I’m so annoyed by. Han and Vivian are so good at keeping the girls’ voices so distinct and clear, you wouldn’t need labels to identify their POVs. Please note that if you didn’t read the first book this review will assume that you’ve read it!
Anyways, due to what happened in the last book Rennie and Lillia are no longer friends, but still “hang” out in the same group of friends. And, just in case you’re wondering, no Rennie doesn’t find out about the Plan between Kat, Lillia and Mary. Though, she does get pretty close to it! I was relieved that Rennie doesn’t make as much of an appearance in the book as much as she did in the first. She annoyed me to pieces, and I just couldn’t even deal with her. Though, that’s not to say that Rennie didn’t have her moments in this book.
There is still plenty of “revenge” going on in this book and it’s directed towards Reeve. Apparently, what happened to him in the last book wasn’t enough for Kat, Lillia and Mary cause the three of them start planning their Revenge on Reeve as soon as the book starts. Hey, good for me, I like a good revenge plan. Especially if it means that the ‘I’m-faking-interest-in-you-only-to-break-your-heart’ card gets played. This is one of my favourites, because ~unwanted/totally unexpected/expected~ feelings appear. What can I say? I’m a sucker. Lillia gets tasked to put the plan into action and it was completely unexpected, because I was totally gunning for Lillia/Alex after the whole “oh, so you didn’t sleep with my baby sister?!” thing happened. Then again, Kat/Alex were totally cute at some parts too but it’s clear that Alex really only has eyes for Lillia… maybe? hm.
I would just like to put out there that the whole “he’s a misunderstood bad boy” is probably one of my least favourite things ever in books. Yet, this was bound to happen, and I have to say that I didn’t hate it too much. Mostly because Reeve never stopped being a jerk, and for that I give my props to Han and Vivian. Generally, once authors have established that their bad boys are just misunderstood gentle souls, the “bad boy” in question does a complete 360 in characterization and the character you first fell in love with is no more.
Throughout the book Mary is trying to figure out what’s going on with her. She keeps this a secret from Kat and Lillia, which is a good thing too! We finally discover the mystery behind Mary’s “power” and holy shit I did not see that one coming! It also creeps me the fuck out because out of all the supernatural things, that is just a big fucking no.
Can September just get here already? I need the next book in this series!
