The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston
5.0
“I want to tell you a story about a magical apartment. You might not believe me at first, but I promise it’s true.”
The Seven Year Slip is about Clementine, who, while grieving her aunt’s untimely death, has also just inherited her apartment in New York City. Her aunt only had two rules for the apartment: “First rule, always take your shoes off by the door. Second, never fall in love in this apartment.” Can Clementine manage to abide by those rules?
I loved this book so much. It pulled me in immediately and I could not put it down - I actually read it in a day. If you loved The Time Traveler’s Wife, The Seven Year Slip is a book for you. This is such a beautiful story about the people that come into your life at the time when you most need them.
I’m not sure what else to say without spoiling it – I loved Clementine’s relationship with her aunt. I loved the behind the scenes of the publishing and chef worlds. I loved that I was able to figure out some of the twists but I actually think I was supposed to. I loved the writing and the whole story.
I’m learning that I actually love a bit of magical realism. This might be one of my favourite books of the whole year.
