These Violent Delights by Micah Nemerever

4.0

i honestly don’t have much to say. this didn’t change my life, but i thoroughly enjoyed reading this. it was like a soap opera, with endlessly bad decisions, so many characters and moving parts, and, of course, a toxic love story at it’s center. it was fun! i found myself rooting for julian and paul while also not really liking paul at all that much.
if only “fast car” by tracy chapman was out at the time, maybe paul would’ve driven off to montreal with julian instead of trying to strangle him in the woods.

the writing was really rich and not too purple, in my opinion. the letters between paul and julian over the summer was a favorite moment. they showed just had badly paul misunderstood their dynamic while also being a nice lead up to the events that happened at julian’s house.

also, it was jarring to finish the great believers audiobook and going into this one. same narrator, talking about a charlie and julian. i felt like i played the wrong one for a second.

overall, nice read! i’m sorry, paul, i would’ve defended you more if you were a girl. #juliandidnothingwrong
