T Kingfisher’s horror books are set to become a bit formulaic (the setup of this has lots of similarities with the hollow places). This isn’t necessarily a criticism - her books work for me as cosy horror, they are tense when they need to be, comforting otherwise, and I appreciate the slightly older protagonists.
