Hauch der Versuchung by Nalini Singh, Nora Lachmann

fast-paced

3.0

I am finally starting my great Psy-Changeling reread! In chronological order. (Well, I technically started with Tammy & Nathan in December but details.)

For a novella that has such a dark opening, you'd expect to hold a similar tension, but no, the threat of Vincent and his gang does not feel close at all. While that is all mostly happening off-page, Ria's and Emmett's relationship feels like a speedrun. < spoiler> I am not a fan of the trope where our FMC is in a relationship she is not actually interested that kind of excuses her cheating with the love interest - Emmett's comment about "oh but she isn't married yet" struck me as equally insensitive because just because their engagement was still in the works does not mean she is a free woman?! But I do put most of the blame on Ria as she is one in the relationship. And yes, we do find out he's an ass but why did the rest of the family keep that a secret - what was the point of all that.
I do like their dynamic in the end but there was a lot of uninteresting stuff surrounding it.

Oh, and I totally forgot Emmett is one of the DarkRiver members who still has his family, that was an actual surprise, lol. And I do love young Dorian though - bless him and his inferiority complex.

I don't think I will return to this one.

original review:
Not one of my favourite novellas.
I don't feel this story added much to either Emmett or Ria.
