more in depth explanation: this book was fine but many of the plot elements I have seen in other books. The main character starts out as 11 but there is no sense of him aging or getting older personality wise (I stopped reading when he would have been 14-16?). We are also told things about his personality that aren't evidenced - for example, a teacher tells the mc he has aptitude for leadership so he should start demonstrating leadership. What made the teacher think that to begin with? I did not feel a connection to the side characters either.
