Buddyread with Winter! It was so lovely to read this over the course of five days, especially with someone who loves Shakespeare as much as Winter does. The best buddyread partner I could've asked for <3
The play is so fun! I adored how down bad Orlando is for Rosalind, especially when paired with how influential a character Rosalind is. She's truly the main character. Her relationship with Celia is super sweet (though all the other familial relationships seem to fall to the side). I enjoyed the parallels between the three sibling/cousin pairs. Touchstone was possibly my favourite character, though the whole cast is a blast.
There was some extra stuff that lowered my rating somewhat. I don't think I felt as close to the narrative as I did with Romeo and Juliet, though maybe that is a me problem. A lot of it just felt like it was resolved in one scene, while other scenes had superfluous songs and whatever else going on. However, I will admit that maybe I do not have enough whimsy in my heart.
