Rebel Rising: A Memoir by Rebel Wilson
3.0

I love reading celebrity memoirs because they humanize the rich and famous people who write them. That’s not quite the case with Rebel’s memoir.

I appreciated learning about her upbringing, especially her perseverance to do well in school to have a good, stable career.

However, the book seemed to drag on and became a chore to read. It seemed like there was an unnecessary focus on including non-essential details, including incessant name-dropping, the inclusion of statistics (Rebel is very aware of her projects’ box office performance, as well as IG likes and impressions lol)

Rebel (and let’s be real, her ghost writer) made some interesting choices when writing this book. The way she chose to describe certain mundane things really said a lot. For example,
Why mention her g wagon and not just car, “office house”and not just house, VIP parking lot instead of parking lot, I could go on and on and on.

Overall I learned that Rebel is very intelligent and had to work hard (like we all do) to get to where she is today. However I also learned that she is quite materialistic and loves to brag.

Now, I do think I would be saying the same thing if this was written by a man, just FYI!!
