Perhaps because the setting wasn't as interesting to me, I didn't like this as much as The Virgin Suicides or Middlesex, which I particularly enjoyed. The Marriage Plot is set in the 1980s and follows three people who have just graduated (or not quite graduated) from college. Madeleine studied English and is particularly interested in Victorian, women writers and that's where the marriage plot comes in. Her real life relationships are complicated and the book gave me an interesting insight into bipolar disorder. I liked the ending, though it was not exactly happy.
