Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune

5.0

This book was so incredibly GOOD!

It had a very unique premise, several quirky but interesting characters, and even a twist that actually threw me for a loop. The premise itself was a bit of a twist and that’s all I’ll say since I don’t do spoilers, but let me just say I wasn’t expecting what I thought with the synopsis of this book. TJ Klune, very well done, sir!

The story was pretty fast-paced. It captured me from the very start and didn’t let up. Of course, the best part of this book for me was the emotional conflicts of Wallace and his “predicament”. So much happened throughout this book emotionally and it paid off in so many ways. I’m really admiring Klune’s casualness regarding LGBTQIA+ characters in the way that he creates these worlds of acceptance as the norm. AS IT SHOULD BE! No bigotry or prejudices of any kind. And I love his takes on how unconventional families form; I got that from his work “In the Lives of Puppets”. Though this is only the second book of Klune’s bibliography I’ve read, I’m sensing a particular formula he seems to be applying to his stories, and it’s great.

I’m giving this book 5 stars. I loved everything about it. Highly recommend reading it.
