This was good. It was pretty predictable and focused more on the romance aspect than the fantasy, a little more than I would have liked I think. But I still enjoyed it.
The world building was a little confusing at first but I was able to get a good idea of it fairly quickly.
My main issue with this book, I think, is the romance. They were both trying to seduce each other and it was supposed to be enemies to lovers but there wasn't any of that really good banter and fighting that you can usually get in enemies to lovers. It didn't really feel like Rune actually hated Gideon. I know she said it quite often but I never actually felt it. Especially since their first on-page interaction she was so attracted to him that they almost kissed.
I will say that I did enjoy the chemistry between Rune and Gideon if I set aside the enemies to lovers thing. They did have good chemistry and I felt the tension between them, but I just didn't actually feel her hatred of him in the story.
I was also hoping that magic would be more on the page in this book. I know they were supposed to be hiding their magic and everything, but I figured we'd at least get to see a little more of it than we did. That's why I felt like this story focused more on the romance aspect than it did on the fantasy and it kind of disappointed me a little bit.
Overall, I did like this book and I do want to read the next one when it comes out.
