Before, After, and Somebody In Between by Jeannine Garsee

4.0

This book was totally awesome. I finally picked it up after I'd had it sitting on my shelf for months then I spent the first 50 pages wondering why I hadn't picked it up beforehand. It's about a poor white girl whose mother is an addict living in a primarily black part of town, then ending up in a rich white part of town, and it follows her journey to figure out who she is as she gets dragged around. Her voice is compelling and the appropriate age and you hurt for her because she makes some stupid teenage decisions. Overall, I thought the situations she gets into, the voices of her friends, just about everything had an authentic feel.
