The Making of a Manager: What to Do When Everyone Looks to You by Julie Zhuo

4.0

Whether you're a new manager encountering situations for the first time or someone experienced who wants to find a new perspective, this is a great, accessible read. I found the language used and sectioning of topics helpful for both longer reads and for dipping in and out. A few pages each morning and evening on my journey to and from work felt the perfect bookend to a work day. On the way in I would consider something new which I may be able to apply to the day ahead, on the way home often I found myself reflecting on what I was reading and either applying it retrospectively to a situation or planning ahead for the next day. The author is clear that their views are advice from someone who has done it - this isn't the only approach, not by far, but the content was thought provoking and helpful.
