The Magician King by Lev Grossman
4.0
The contents of this book (at least Julia's story) was the only part of this that I recalled from the tv show. Which was kind of nice, getting to see new plots and magical twists. It was slightly less depressing than the first book (especially when it came to Quentin) and while it kind of went off the wall with weird magic mixed with the modern world, it was highly entertaining.
Julia's story was heartbreaking. I thought we'd make it through the book without the but alas, it was still there. I was really hoping that wouldn't be a defining factor in Julia's story, or any woman's for that matter, but it was there and it was almost harder to read anticipating it coming up. Julia lost her chosen family horrifically, had to deal with that and while she seemed happy I still feel like she deserved better.
Anyway...the ending was ridiculous and almost feels like the perfect conclusion so I'm hesitant to start the third book but hell...I made it this far, I might as well keep going.
