The Grapes of Wrath
by John Steinbeck
Assigned reading
All right man what the flip. Look I know I'm an English major and I'm meant to see all the classics for what they are. But this one just...wasn't for me. Do I recognize the point of that and why the book is dull and sad? Sure. Do I want to? No, not really. I can be bitter occasionally.
Nothing good happens to this family. Ever. I spent eighteen and a half hours (Thank you, Isaac, from Essential Reads I owe you big time) listening about dust and starvation and how important it is to have community and hope for it to end like that and Google "Why do people like The Grapes of Wrath". Call me naive, young, stupid, and unappreciative but it all comes down to the fact that I just didn't like it. More opinion than fact but whatever, man. Happy for you if you liked it though. At least now I can say I read it.
Also disgruntled that this is the book that lets me complete my reading goal of 2023.
