When I say that to fully enjoy this book you have suspend your disbelief and leave your conscious at the door, I mean it lol. Like just like drop kick that sucker out because if not … well its hard to enjoy a book that’s just batshit crazy.
Honestly, interesting premise and decent execution. There were some scenes where I just couldn’t (and they aren’t the ones you would think they would be - hello rain scene; it was just a big ugh and eye roll from me).
Mara was actually probably my favorite part of the story (though there were scenes when I was like girl really??? And also where I got the sense she was being given the not-like-other-girls treatment but I think that was a Cole thing). I like her resilience and her kindness, and mostly I like the fact that she could give as good as she got. I liked that this was a woman who was trying to keep her life together even while dealing with the trauma from her childhood - and if the echoes of her mothers voice are anything to believe it was brutal.
This book is pretty explicit in its subject matter so just be very attentive to the trigger warnings everyone.
