The Other Boleyn Girl is popular for a reason as it is one of Philippa Gregory's best written works.

After having read this novel I subsequently gained an interest in the life of Mary Boleyn, often overshadowed in history by her famous sister, Anne.

The characters are so intricately described with Mary a delicate and often misunderstood young woman, dominated and bossed about by her temperamental and selfish sister, Anne.

The Other Boleyn Girl was such a good read, that the movie actually spoils all of Phillippa's hard work. The characters are far more fascinating on paper.

Anne Boleyn's character is surprisingly hateful, as is King Henry VIII's womanising ways. The element of George Boleyn's homosexuality also brings intrigue and liveliness to the overall plot.

All in all, a fantastic read. The best Tudor novel so far, at least in my opinion.
