milo_afc 's review for:
In Ascension
by Martin MacInnes
Martin MacInness is exceptional at creating a grand science fiction novel and it's always a plus to see genre books recognised by the booker; this is the first one that I actually went ahead and bought (rest have all been Borrowbox books) - and it's worthy of its significant length; echoing movies like Proxima with a touch of Cormac McCarthy - almost feeling like Cormac McCarthy in space. The personal workplace drama is just as engaging as the bigger sciencey stuff; and Leigh is a well-rounded lead who I couldn't help but get behind.
Completely compelling and utterly engrossing - think Arrival for its influences and equal quality of execution. Stellar.
