The Passenger
by Lisa Lutz
The Passenger rushes from one place to another, filling in back story as needed. It pays a lot of attention to the fact that in our computerized society, it is nearly impossible to live off the grid for long. Everywhere you go, you get identified. I really appreciate that realism and am now thinking through how hard it would be to just disappear. Not that I plan to or anything. Now I also see why identity theft is such a big business.
I really feel for the main character, who finds herself running running running without a lot of time to plan moves or ponder consequences. I genuinely like her, which makes her painful encounters that much worse.
It’s a quick read. I didn’t like it anywhere near as much as the Spellman Files books, but it’s definitely good.
