I had somehow misguided expectations after reading the synopsis; I thought there was going to be a heavier linguistic and academic approach, whereas the book has a much wider scope and often takes the author's own experiences as the starting point for general reflections.
There were some digressions that I wasn't interested in as much and found a bit too tangential. Still, it was a wortwhile read that offered many incisive and thought-provoking observations. I especially liked the extended metaphor of a language museum inhabited by the "unnamed" (those that are considered the norm and not in need of a definition) and the "named" (those outside of the norm that must be clearly defined and categorized).

Graphic: Racism and Islamophobia
Moderate: Hate crime and Sexism
Minor: Ableism, Child abuse, Death, Mental illness, Rape, Sexual violence, Suicide, Murder, Colonisation, and Classism
